Chevy ups the ante on Bolt's mileage for 2020

GM announces the 2020 Bolt EV will provide enhance range

Twenty-one is the magic number for the Chevy Bolt EV in 2020. “The Bolt EV set the benchmark for long-range, affordable electric vehicles, and we’re excited to raise the bar by offering nearly 10 percent more EPA-estimated range for the 2020 model year,” said Tim Grewe, director of Global Battery Cell Engineering and Strategy. “At Chevrolet we’re constantly listening to customer feedback and we heard the desire for more range. The team worked diligently to find ways to improve battery energy, giving customers the confidence to go more than the extra mile.”

General Motors research teams improved the Bolt's range by adjusting the chemistry in the battery cells. While the change was small, it was certainly impactful leading to no required changes to the battery case or structure of the vehicle. It is exactly this kind of innovation that has made General Motors an authority on affordable electric vehicles. The research and development conducted by GM has lead to advances throughout several industries, including improved performance in cell phone batteries!
